Comic book fans the world over will have found their ears pricking at the news that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are planning to include the story Just Another Saturday Night in the long-awaited sequel to Sin City.
Involving three of the key players from the first film in the form of Hartigan (Bruce Willis), Nancy (Jessica Alba) and Marv (Mickey Rourke), it would be a popular choice, provided the original talent could be persuaded to return.
Just Another Saturday Night follows Marv's movements on the same night that Nancy and Hartigan are reunited, providing a storyline that runs in tandem with the events of the first movie's final third. Mickey Rourke is aware of proceedings and recently spoke to Comingsoon.net about the chances of a return for big Marv.
“It depends,” laughed the Wrestler star. “It depends on how bad they want me, you feel me? I did [like the character], but I'm claustrophobic, so the hours of makeup… you have to keep it on for about 13 or 14 hours a day. It's latex and glue and that stuff gets my eyes all red.”
It also got in the way of the star’s social life last time around. “I remember I picked up some chick at a bar in Texas one night and invited her to the set to have lunch at the lunch break," says Rourke. "I couldn't take the shit off. Fuck it, I never saw her again.”
That said, the character is at least one that Rourke would be interested in revisiting, which is more than can be said for Whiplash, the villain he played in Iron Man 2.
“I try to find the moments where [the villain is] not that cliched, evil bad guy," he explains. "I had it on Iron Man and they won. It was going to work for Marvel and them breaking [Jon] Favreau's balls and wanting just a one-dimensional villain. The performance and all the things that I tried to bring to it ended up on the fucking floor."
Word of warning then Mr. Rodriguez. If you do persuade Mickey Rourke to don the latex for a second time, make sure he gets lots of nice, juicy characterisation to play with. And the odd lunch break out of character might help as well…

Johnny Depp finally has some payback over comments Ricky Gervais made at the Golden Globes last year about his film The Tourist. It's not quite the media spat you might expect though, as Depp's jibes feature on Gervais' new comedy series Life's Too Short. Warwick Davis stars in the show as the head of a talent agency run exclusively for smaller actors. Depp appears as a guest star and you can get a taste of his revenge below.
What do you do if you're a Tim Burton character and your dog dies? You reanimate it, of course - and the first official images of Victor Frankenstein doing just that to his pet Sparky have appeared online. Burton told Entertainment Weekly, which published the images of the stop-motion animation Frankenweenie, that the film is about the enduring story of a child and his first pet. “It just tries to keep that idea of a very, simple pure relationship. Mix that with the Frankenstein myth and it causes problems,” he said. “It has its good side and repercussions,” Burton added. “Ultimately, we try to go with the slightly more positive aspects of keeping that relationship going.”
Burton lost his job at Disney for making a live-action short of the same material in 1984. However, that film helped open doors for his career as a director. “I don’t know, they got freaked out or something, but they still allowed me to make the film. Even though I was frustrated about the release - or not release of it - it was still a great experience, and did a lot for me, so I couldn’t really complain,” Burton said. Frankenweenie opens 5 October 2012.
