Watch a new featurette for The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man has released a new featurette turning the spotlight on director Marc Webb, who gives an insight into the various challenges of bringing such a massive project to the big screen.

Webb talks of his excitement at watching the bare bones of the script come to life in the hands of his talented cast, with a new clip of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone illustrating the point nicely. Their sparky chemistry already looks to be one of the highlights of the film.

There's also a brief look at a building-swinging scene that looks as exhilarating as any of the "Spidey takes flight" sequences in Sam Raimi's trilogy.  We'd imagine the 3D will come into its own during that particular moment.

Take a look at the new featurette, below…

Throughout this marketing campaign, Webb has seemed unusually enthusiastic and open about the project. While some directors are more concerned with keeping the film's secrets, Webb has been only too happy to talk of his love for the character, a refreshing approach that bodes well for the finished article.

The Amazing Spider-Man opens in the UK on 4 July 2012. There's plenty more super-hero in this summer yet...

Four minute "super preview" for The Amazing Spider-Man: watch now

The Amazing Spider-Man has released what Sony are referring to as a "super preview", a four-minute trailer featuring an extended action sequence alongside a host of material cut from the existing trailers and a few new snippets for good measure.

The highlight of the new footage has to be the bridge-set action scene, in which the Lizard sends several cars hurtling over the side of a suspension bridge, only for Spidey to save the day with a few well-aimed strands of web.

However, there's a small child trapped in one of the vehicles, and it looks as though it's about to go up in smoke. Cue a hair-raising rescue attempt from an increasingly desperate-looking Spider-Man…

Take a look at the new footage below…

It's not going to please fans wanting to go into the movie fresh, but there's plenty on show here to suggest that Marc Webb's reboot will be worthy of the franchise, with Andrew Garfield's wisecracking charm offsetting the carnage nicely.

The Amazing Spider-Man opens in the UK on 4 July 2012.

Two new posters for The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man is really stepping it up in the marketing stakes, with yesterday's four-minute "super preview' followed by the release of a pair of new posters.

The first new one-sheet shows Andrew Garfield as an unmasked Spidey, casting a watchful eye over the New York skyline from a lofty vantage point. The Spider-Man logo shines up from the city lights below, accompanied by the new tagline, "The untold story begins".

Sony's marketing team are really trying to push the idea that this is a new story, separate and different from the one told by Sam Raimi's trilogy. Marc Webb's film will tackle the tale of Peter's missing parents, focusing on how his search for knowledge leads him into contact with Rhys Ifans' Curt Connors.

The second poster offers a similar look at New York's new Spidey-sign, with Spider-Man's fist grabbing hold of a length of web attached to one of those nifty wrist-mounted dispensers, a nice addition to the new suit.

The Amazing Spider-Ma
n opens in the UK on 4 July 2012. In the meantime, you can check out both new posters below...

Pair of new images for The Amazing Spider-Man

Now that The Avengers are happily running riot with box office records the world over, Sony Picturers have started pushing what they hope will be the other big Marvel star of the summer, with a pair of new images being released for The Amazing Spider-Man.

It’s the second set of new stills to be released this week, and while the first set focused on a battle-worn Spidey, this latest pair turn their attention towards the creature that did the damage. That’s right, it’s a closer look at the Lizard.

The first image shows a scaly claw clutching on to a camera. On closer look, you’ll see “property of Peter Parker” etched on the back. Does this mean the Lizard becomes aware of Spidey’s real identity? It could well be…

The second image is perhaps more exciting, particularly for those fanboys who had expressed displeasure at the Lizard’s general appearance. Having largely been seen in the buff, this new image finally shows the Lizard in the torn medical coat in which he more frequently appears in the comic-books.

This is presumably a shot taken from just after his initial transformation, but it’s nice to see it included in any case. Going by the rest of the footage we’ve seen, however, it’s not an accessory that lasts the course.

You can see Curt Connors’ alter-ego in action when The Amazing Spider-Man opens in the UK on 4 July 2012.

New trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man: watch now

The Amazing Spider-Man has released a new full-length trailer, featuring a wisecracking Spidey, a scowling Peter Parker and a Lizard that looks as though he could give the Hulk a run for his money.

Director Marc Webb has stressed the importance of Peter's lost parents to his particular story, and judging by this latest trailer, he wasn't kidding. "The one thing that has haunted me my entire life," says Parker, grimly, "is finding the truth about my parents."

Teenage angst aside, the new trailer doesn't skimp on action, with the Lizard (spotted once again in that signature medical coat we referred to yesterday) causing out and out carnage in New York City. Looks as though Spider-Man's going to have his hands full with this guy.

Take a look at the new trailer below…

We've still yet to see a proper, stationary glimpse of the Lizard in all his glory, but we can understand why Sony want to hold something back for the final release. That said, he does look like a pleasingly physical enemy, and one who should help sell the new Spider-Man as a high-school kid just coming to terms with his powers.

On a similar note, Garfield's wisecracking could just be the film's trump card - a return to the mischievous sense of humour of the comic-book Spidey after Tobey Maguire's distinctly straight-laced incarnation.
